DFW History and Information |
DFW Coaches Clinic was formed with the intent to provide a high quality, affordable instructional clinic for high school football coaches. The motto is “A Clinic for High School Coaches Given by High School Coaches”. In living up to that motto, DFW Clinic offers the unique format of allowing only high school football coaches to lecture, and provides a forum for all high school coaches to learn new football and motivational techniques. Two of the main goals are to help improve the overall quality of coaching and to give something back to the coaching community. A well informed coach will do a better job teaching and motivating his players to stay involved in their sport and in school. Students who are involved in extracurricular activities are more successful and cause fewer problems than kids who are not involved. The inaugural DFW Coaches Clinic was held in 1999 and had over 550 coaches in attendance. Over 1100 high school, middle school and youth league coaches from Texas and the surrounding states are projected to be at the 2011 clinic. The 13th annual clinic takes place January 28-30, 2011 at the Embassy Suites Hotel at DFW Airport. The DFW Coaches Clinic is the largest clinic in the state that features only high school coaches as speakers. A portion of all the proceeds from this clinic go to area Special Olympics programs. The clinic directors are Bob Ledbetter, Joe Martin, and Jeff Jordan. ·Bob Ledbetter coached high school football in Texas for 30 years and is the former athletic director of Southlake Carroll High School. He was the head football coach for 20 years at Frisco and Southlake Carroll; winning State Championships at Carroll in 1988, 1992, and 1993. Carroll set a national record by winning 72 consecutive regular season games from 1986-1993. He served on the Board of Directors for the Texas High School Coaches Association, and was recently inducted into the THSCA Hall of Honor. ·Joe Martin coached in Texas high schools for almost 30 years, winning a State Championship at Garland High School in 1999. He was the head coach at Lake Dallas, Mabank, Garland, and Allen before becoming the Assistant Executive Director of the Texas High School Coaches Association in 2004. Coach Martin also served as President of THSCA. He was named 1999 5A Coach of the Year by Reebok, the Dallas Cowboys and the NFL, and the Texas Sportswriter’s Association. He is a member of the Lewisville H.S. Sports Hall of Fame, Garland Sports Hall of Fame, Eastern New Mexico University Hall of Honor, and Texas High School Coaches Association Hall of Honor. ·Jeff Jordan has been coaching in Texas high schools for 25 years, the last 11 as head coach at Garland High School. The Owls were State Semifinalists in 2006. He has been to the playoffs eight of the last nine years and has twice been named Coach of the Week by the Dallas Cowboys. Coach Jordan holds the school record for most career victories and most playoff victories. The Owls set a school record by winning 83 games from 2000-2009. He was the defensive coordinator at Garland when the Owls won the State Championship in 1999. He is a member of the Garland Sports Hall of Fame. Coach Jordan has worked as an in-house scout for the Dallas Cowboys for the last 24 years, where he has been a part of three Super Bowl champion teams. |
